In many communities across the Lake Region, gender-based violence has long been hidden in silence, normalized, unreported, and often misunderstood. But that silence is slowly breaking. Through community dialogues, awareness forums, and grassroots campaigns, a new narrative is emerging, one where women and girls are not only aware of their rights but are also demanding them.
At the heart of this shift are women human rights defenders and community members who are challenging harmful norms and creating safe spaces for survivors. These spaces are not just about sharing stories—they are about healing, justice, and action. Survivors are now being linked to legal aid, healthcare, and psychosocial support, ensuring they are not alone in their journey.
This work is more than intervention, it is transformation. Communities are beginning to see gender-based violence not as a private issue but as a collective responsibility. And in that shift, hope is growing.
